Pregnancy Update - 33 - 35 Weeks

Baby is the size of a honeydew melon (at 35 weeks)!
Maternity Style: Red Pocket Top from New Look (£6.99) and Black Over the Bump Leggings from Next (£12.00).

I am on the homeward stretch now, 2 weeks till what they class as full term and 5 weeks till my due date! Arggh. I am feeling particularly big at the moment and increasingly more uncomfortable, especially around my groin and pelvis, walking any sort of long distance is definitely out of the question, plus baby is still enjoying using my bladder as a trampoline so I don't get anywhere very fast. I'm still carrying quite high, I generally feel like there is a foot or some body part tucked under my ribs which is really quite painful at times! However, I don't want to speak too soon but I do seem to be sleeping a little better now which is a massive help and Alfie has adjusted to his new bedroom so is getting a good 12 hours too which makes a difference to my energy levels. Although I still feel knackered at times during the week it's much less than I was a few weeks ago, I've also noticed in the last couple of days my acid indigestion has calmed a little which is nice.

I had my appointment with the Consultant last week to finalise my birth plan, after thinking about things long and hard I've decided to go for another 'natural' delivery if possible and not a c-section. I'm still going to be consultant led (you can read parts 1 & 2 of my birth story here and here which explains a bit more about why), as mentioned in my birth story I have had a lot of anxiety in the run up to the birth and have debated whether to opt for a section but so many medical professionals have assured me that my birth will be different this time and I'm curious in a way to see if they're right, scared but curious! I had wanted to know if I would be able to remain active and use a birthing pool too during labour which my Consultant has okayed so that swung my decision I think.

In my last update I was writing about how I had been suffering from dizzy spells (you can read more about that here), although I am still having the occasional moment of feeling faint and dizzy they have reduced, however when I spoke to the Consultant about this she felt that she wanted to refer me for some tests to make sure nothing else is going on so today I am off to hospital for an Echocardiogram. I have to admit this has made my anxiety levels shoot through the roof, after my Dad having a massive heart attack a few years ago and me having a heart murmur as a child I have been panicking that something is seriously wrong but I'm hoping that the Consultant is just playing it safe and it's all just pregnancy related because otherwise I feel ok! Fingers crossed it will be over quickly, although it's not an invasive procedure it's still a bit unsettling.

I weighed myself again this morning and my weight has gone down by 3lbs making my total weight gain up till now 3lbs, as mentioned previously I never seem to gain very much when pregnant, strange I know. I have now packed my hospital bags, pretty much and feel alot more prepared than I was a few weeks ago, I just need to finish sorting out the nursery and tidy it up a bit and I think I'm done!

I was also very fortunate to have a lovely afternoon with some of my work colleague's last Saturday where we had a very civilised afternoon of tea and cakes and little baby G got thoroughly spoilt! Was great to catch up with them as I'm already feeling out of the loop, lots to keep me occupied in the next few months though!

Currently it is estimated that baby weighs around the 5lb mark and is approximately 46cm in length from head to toe. There is much less space for baby to move around now and it's likely that various body parts such as bottom, feet and elbows may protrude from the bump, I quite often see what I think is a bottom pushing its way put of my stomach! The kidney's are now fully developed and the liver is starting to process some waste products, the main thing that baby will do over the coming weeks is to gain weight ready for their entrance into the world! There is also more baby in my uterus than amniotic fluid and breathlessness can be quite common at this stage in pregnancy as the uterus is pushing up against the diaphragm.

My next update is likely to be at around 37 weeks, so as always thanks for reading and I'll update again soon!
