Fancy Some Makeup? Competition Time!

It's that time again....competition time!! It has been a little while since I ran a comp and since I've been blogging 3 years now (seriously.....my little blog has come a long way in this time!) that I thought a little giveaway would be a nice way to reward someone who perhaps reads my waffle frequently or someone who just stops by now and again to have a nose. Either way I can't tell you how much it means to me.

I'm very excited to offer you the chance to win these lovely items, I've chosen a selection of products that I love and hope someone would be pleased to win them.

So what could you win?

You could be lucky enough to win the following items:

  • 1 x Burberry Lipgloss in shade 'Nude Beige' (RRP £21.00)
  • Nails Inc Nail Polish in shade 'Tate' (RRP £8.00)
  • Bare Minerals Round the Clock Eyeliner in shade '4 pm' (RRP £12.00)
  • Angele Paris Nail Polish in shade 'Red' (RRP around £6.00)
  • BellaPierre Powder Eyeshadow in shade 'Whesek' (RRP around £9.00)
  • No Tangle Hair Ties (RRP £4.00)
All of these items have either being purchased personally by myself or accumulated over time from my various beauty box subscriptions (which I also pay for), I've chosen to give away these items knowing that I have used the brands myself and love them. The Burberry gloss is gorgeous, I use Bare Minerals on a daily basis, Bellapierre shadow pots are really nice and I already have some no tangle hair ties (which are ace by the way!). I have hundreds of red nail polishes so would love someone else to have them other than them going to waste.

The competition will run over the next month and winners will be contacted via email (so please leave one that is valid and checked regularly) as well as twitter. Weekend Style #19

Weekend style is back!! Can you believe that the the last style post was before Christmas, you can read that one here. The fact of the matter is that I've been giving myself weekends off blogging as I've been getting pretty bogged down with it all so needed the weekends to chill but I'm back in the flow of things (just about) and have some lovely outfits to feature over the next few weeks so am looking forward to sharing them with you!

I popped into Matalan last week, I don't often get to go to Matalan but I think over the past couple of years their clothes, especially baby clothes have improved massively! When I saw this little short dungaree set I fell in love, it is absolutely gorgeous and I adore the pop of colour with the red tights. The one and only thing I have to grumble about is the fact that there are no poppers on the shorts meaning at nappy changes the whole lot has to come off..........slight pain in the arse as you can imagine!

Girls Heart Printed Dungarees with Tights - Matalan (£10.00 for set)

Headband - I think Claire's Accessories but can't quite remember

The 2nd outfit I am featuring this week is this little dress that I managed to pick up in the John Lewis Sale. I thought that there sale was one of the best in January and I definitely spent too much BUT I managed to get Elarna loads of stuff in the next size for half the price so in my eyes that's a winner! I love the colour of this dress and the cute pattern, I always love to put her in pink as you probably know but I also love her in green, I added a simple pair of tights with the cute shoe design on them for added warmth.

Patterned Dress - John Lewis (clearance) - Out of stock sadly

Tights - M&S (I think!)

The last outfit I am featuring was another sale buy but I am beyond gutted. Like an idiot I just grabbed a load of washing in similar colours and whacked in the washing machine not at all thinking to check in labels which to be fair I normally do. Anyway you can imagine what happened, this lovely dungaree set being wool has shrunk to the size of a newborn baby, I was so cross, it was £16.00 in the sale and she only had it on once. I searched online but nowhere has any stock of 9-12 months, I even emailed John Lewis to see if any of their stores have any stock but no luck. So this is an SOS, if anyone has or sees this lovely set in 9-12 months please do let me know!

What do you think of this weeks outfit choices?

Our Week!

Last week I was having a lovely week off, this week fully fledged working Mama once again. I've had a good first week, I didn't really know what to expect but so far so good....but I'm jumping ahead of myself as this is Monday.

Friday I was very much looking forward to (another) meal out with friends, I absolutely love putting my makeup on, doing my hair and putting on a nice outfit (and heels on!) and heading on out for the evening.....child free.....amazing! I'd treated myself to some lovely new makeup too which arrived on Friday meaning I could test it out in the evening, perfect. Saturday morning I have to admit I had a slight 'prosecco head' but it was worth it for the evening out. We had our lovely new oven fitted which has meant we finally can cook properly again, we opted for a Smeg and it's absolutely fantastic so far. I made my first batch of choc chip cookies, they smelt amazing, only issue is I burnt a few as I haven't quite got to grips with the temperature control yet. Guess what, more cookies are being baked this weekend (purely for test reasons, obviously).

Sunday was a quick trip to Matalan for a few bits & pieces while the husband perused B&Q, we then had lunch at the in-laws which was nice, I then spent the rest of Sunday stressing about starting work (again) on Monday.

The alarm was set for 5:45am, erghhh, it's been a while since I'd set an alarm! Managed to get a bit of sleep, albeit disrupted with a dodgy monitor and Elarna waking up. Everything was going to plan until Alfie came down for his brekkie and somehow ended up smashing a jar of pasta sauce all over the floor and covering himself, cue lots of tears and me stressing about being late for my 1st day! I did make it on time thankfully. I'm currently working 3 days a week between the hours of 8:00 - 6:30, it's been a very looongggg time since I've worked this length of days and I feel it's going to take a few weeks to adjust, plus my journey is about 40 minutes to get to the surgery so my day does feel quite epic. It also means that I don't see Elarna for these days as I'm gone before she wakes, I do see Alfie for a bit though. These negatives can be overlooked though because I get 2 days off in the week to spend with them, I work no weekends or bank holidays so obviously this is a bonus. So far I've been enjoying it and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for me.

The 2 days that I was at home during the week were spent chilling out and having fun with the kiddies. I was desperate to get out for a walk but the weather was absolutely rubbish and instead we ended up staying in for these days, I'm hoping next week is more promising!

This was my week, so how was yours?

Hearty (1)

Sarah's favourite link up was from Lynne from New Mummy Blog, this is an excellent post questioning why people's wouldn't vaccinate their baby. I feel quite strongly about this and can't quite get my head around why people wouldn't either so please do have a read.

Mummy, there's a Monster!!!

About a month or so after we moved into our new place and Alfie started at his new nursery something changed. Suddenly we were in this bigger house, with different noises, lots of places to hide and at times a little creaky (and creepy). It's not an old house, just 10 years old but the area where we live is pitch black at night and sooo quiet so any noises can be heard and if I'm on my own particularly amplified! I can see why a three year old's imagination could run wild with all of these new things happening in his life.

Since Alfie has been at his new nursery his imagination has been in over drive, it's wonderful to see, he loves to play shops, loves to be a chef in his kitchen, mimic myself and hubby and makes some bizarre funny voices chatting away in them at times. However as his imagination grows so do the figments of it (at least I think they're figments..... at least I hope so!).

In the 3 1/2 years of his little life he's never been particularly scared or overly anxious about many situations but lately he's been a right little monkey creeping not only himself out but me!

Take yesterday for example........

Alfie: 'Mummy!!!! Mummmmyyyyyyyy!!''

Me: 'Yes Alf'

Alfie: 'Can you see it?'

Me: 'See what?'

Alfie: *whispering* 'The monster......'

Me: ' Nope I don't see it, where?'

Alfie: 'There....over there......see?? Come, I'll show you....., can you hear it?'

Me:'Ermmmm no.....show me.....'

I then get taken to the cupboard under the stairs and Alfie pointing persistently to the back of the bloody cupboard! This has happened a few times now in various different places and I have to admit it's started to creep me out a bit. Obviously I'd like to point out that I don't believe in monsters but I do believe in ghosts/spirits and now I'm like is this blooming house haunted or something or is literally my son and his imagination increasing.

I've always made sure that he feels safe and I don't want him to become scared of these 'monsters', especially if it involves  them being in his bedroom. I try to make sure he still feels safe in there and we fill his room with lots of teddies that he's chosen, his gro light emits a gentle glow and he knows exactly where we are if he needs us in the night. There has only been the one occasion up till now, just the other week where we had to look under his bed for a monster but we tried to nip that in the bud quite quickly so that we don't start having issues with monsters in his room. I think it's very important that we allow him to use his imagination freely but not to the point that it runs away with him and he becomes scared of monsters or similar that he's created. If this all goes to pot I have my 'monster spray' handy to expel said monsters from his room!

So I'm not really sure what's going on but I'm just going to put it down to his development, because at the moment he is coming on in leaps and bounds and as long as it keeps being a big game to him then I'm happy!

I have to say I love playing with him when he's in role play mode (plus it means I get to be a big kid and play with toys, hehe), it's so funny to listen to him and watch him, he clearly spends a whole load of time observing us (very apparent recently) as I see him acting very much like Adi and sometimes me (ahem, no idea who this sounds like......'Mummy I am CROSS with YOU!'). Mostly it's Adi though that he likes to mimic, most days he will put a head set  on and pretend to be on a very important call like Daddy! He likes to pretend to be getting ready for work, want to go on his bike and cycle to the train station, obviously this is quite hard to role play with him but I have had some amusing pretend real phone calls with him and him informing me of all the work he has to get done. Bless him, the threenage years might be hard but they are wonderful in the terms of communication and fun. Love him.

Anyone else have a monster or 2 in there house?

My Little Wish Box - Review

I can't believe the last my little box that I reviewed was way back in November, it's a bit of shame that didn't get around to reviewing the December box as it was ace (the fact that it contained a Nars item was a winner!). So I received the January box the other day and this months theme is all about wish......cute! Love the design on this months box.

The first item in this months box is what made it slightly more heavy than normal! A gorgeous, minty blue/green hardcover diary, as far as diaries good it's lovely (RRP £10.00)

There was a nice little selection of products in this months box. First a little bottle of Ren Rosa Centifolia 3 in 1 Cleansing Water (RRP for 200ml £13.00), I like the sound of this, designed to be a cleanser toner and a complexion refresher this promises to be a bit of a wonder product!

The next item I am intrigued by, Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick (RRP £19.00 for 12ml). This is basically melted lipstick in a tube, I received a high impact fuchsia shade that is gorgeous, I'm yet to properly tested but it looks good!

The 3rd item sent was a lipbalm (wahoo!). This is a gorgeous one (RRP £7.00),  it's really smooth and silky to apply and ever so moisturising, I can't see this one lasting a long time!

Finally, these super cute wish bracelets. With cute little messages on the band these are lovely to send to friend to let them know you are thinking about them (RRP £6.00).

Overall a lovely box this month. Lovely contents and I really like the pastel shades that feature this month, I'm already looking forward to the Feb box.

How to Avoid Overspending in 2016!

*8 Ways To Avoid Overspending In 2016

Feeling the financial pinch after the excesses of the festive season? Many of us will find ourselves nervously watching the pennies at the start of the year. Fortunately, there are plenty of things that you can do to cut down on spending in 2016 and get your bank balance looking healthy again.

Get back to basics

At the start of 2016, you can avoid overspending by sticking to only buying the essentials you need to get by. While it can be tempting to book holidays and family days out to avoid the winter blues, it’s worth waiting until later in the year. Better deals come out closer to the summer, and waiting allows you to save up more cash for a nicer holiday.

Mend and make do

Before buying something, stop and think about whether you really need it? Could you get that pair of shoes resoled, for example, instead of throwing them out, or can you mend something instead of replace it? It’s the sort of budgeting your grandparents might have used, but you’ll be surprised how much cash you can save.

Plan your meals

So much money is wasted every week on food that goes uneaten and gets thrown away. Save money and be kinder to the environment by planning out your weekly meals and shopping accordingly. By shopping for a specific menu you can reduce waste and the savings will soon start piling up.

Have a budget for fun

January and February can be the most depressing months, so don’t be totally hard on yourself. To make sure you still have fun without breaking the bank, plan yourself an affordable budget for entertainment. Whether it’s going to the pub or out dancing with friends, allowing yourself the odd indulgence will prevent you from having crazy blowouts that you’re sure to regret.

Cook dinner for friends

Love dining out? Why not join forces with your fellow budget-minded friends and organise a dinner club? Simply take it in turns to cook and host people for meals at each others houses – you’ll get all the fun of eating out and enjoying each others’ company but for a fraction of the price.

Shop around

When you do need to buy something, don’t go to the first store you find. Shop around online for the best deals. Whether you’re getting insurance or a new pair of shoes, you’ll find plenty of price comparison sites that exist to help you get the lowest prices around.

Shop budget

Think that watching the pennies means that you have to sacrifice looking great? Think again – you just need to shop smart. Stores like BrandAlley exist specifically for shoppers who want designer clothes without the high price tags. Visit them here for your chance to to shop for top labels at as much as 70% discount on RRP.

Change your habits

Another great way to cut down on spending is to look at what you spend most money on each month. Sucker for red wine? Maybe a dry month would help you save – and give you a health boost too. Or why not try giving up meant for a month or two? You’ll be amazed at how much you can save, and how much healthier you will feel.

Feeling Blue?

Last Monday was 'Blue Monday'.......... reported to be the most depressing day of the year. I can kind of see why, the weather is rubbish, pay day still feels miles away and the festivities of Christmas a distant memory. I had an unexpected week off which was lovely, however the weather was wet, the sky grey and well it felt pretty miserable which didn't exactly have me feeling on top of the world. To help combat the blues the lovely folk over at Wynsors World of Shoes kindly sent me a VIP box to banish those blues!

Inside my lovely VIP box was a fab selection of items to put a smile on my face. I was sent a little pot of dinky chocolate drops (dark choc so hubby also had a pick me up!), some lovely, shimmery nail polish......perfect for pepping the nails up and it's such a lovely shade I will definitely be using it over Summer, a really lovely wooden photo frame to remind me of good memories, a mini notebook to document any happy thoughts and last but not least the trainers of my choice. Lets face it you can't beat a walk in the fresh air to clear your head and make everything seem right. Sadly I didn't get to test out the trainers on Monday due to the cruddy weather but they did get 'road tested' later in the week!

I'm not usually one for feeling down in the dumps but the last couple of weeks has been hard, decision making is not my strong point and deciding what to do for the best has not come easy so being sent a little pick me up has certainly put a smile on my face. My outlook for the start of 2016 was pretty bleak, I started the new year quite miserable and down in the dumps but now I feel I have a plan of action, my mind set is somewhat clearer and I'm feeling alot more positive.

So I'm banishing the blues and focusing on the positives and good things that are in my life at the moment.

How was 'Blue Monday' for you?

Our Week!

Well haven't I been lucky, in a turn about of events I have been lucky enough to have another week off......more about that shortly. Other than the 2 days that Alfie & Elarna are in nursery I have spent 3 lovely days with them, it's been ace. It's been really nice to spend a bit more time with them, unexpectedly.

So last week I mentioned that I had been offered a job and was debating which to choose, well I decided to take a gamble and a new challenge and accept the job in the GP surgery. There were lots of pros and cons to consider but I'm looking forward to a brand new sector of the profession to me and entering the world of practice nursing. I start on Monday and because I had no contract or real loyalty to the previous job that I had just started it was agreed I could leave immediately and begin the new job asap. I have no idea whatsoever if it's the right decision, time will tell but you have to take these chances in life!

Last weekend started with Alfie at rugby, it went ok......he's enjoying it but doesn't always like to join in, I do think he'll gain more confidence as time goes on. Later in the day Alfie really wanted to go for a walk so my husband took him on an epic walk over fields, through a ford, mud and icy puddles on his sit on motorbike! I stayed at home while Elarna slept but then had to pick them both up as Alfie was soaking wet, muddy and I don't think my husband wanted to carry him all the way home! On Sunday, we had a tiny, teeny sprinkling of snow, bit rubbish really! We went to the cinema (as a family, eek!). This is the 2nd time we've taken Alfie, we went to see the new Thomas & Friends film a while back and he loved it so this time we went to see The Good Dinosaur and once again he was transfixed by it, I loved it too, it was a great film if anyone fancies a trip to watch it. Elarna was pretty good throughout it too bless her. We were going to go for a pizza after but Alfie insisted that we had homemade pizzas so off we trotted to Tescos to stock up and it was an afternoon spent pizza making instead. It was an absolutely lovely weekend and we really needed to have some family time.

Monday both kids were at nursery so I took the opportunity to have a good clean and do a ton of washing, very mundane but I got alot done. On Tuesday my Mum popped over and we had a lovely walk out in the crisp sunshine, it was so nice to have a frosty day. Wednesday it was another cold day...... over the road from us is a showground/arena, it is huge. For the past week we have been watching the workmen set up for a huge agricultural show called LAMMA (no idea what it stands for and still don't!). Alfie being Alfie has been so excited seeing all these tractors, combines, lorries and farm vehicles turning up so I decided to see if we could go in. I found that it was free to enter and we could so we spent an hour or so on Wednesday AND Thursday looking around, him and his little addiction to all things outdoors! He was also very chuffed to be given a little rubber tractor by one of the exhibitors, made his afternoon. It's been a lovely week, next week holds some big changes for me (longer days, longer journey but more money and an extra day off!), watch this space to see how I get on!

This was my week, how was yours?

Elarna Birth & Beyond - Update #8/9

Oops, bad Mummy and bad blogger I completely forgot to write Elarna's 8 month update! With Christmas and all that jazz I must have just overlooked it (I took the pictures I just forgot to write the post) so I'm rolling her 8/9 month update into one. The last update I did was 7 months and it doesn't feel like it was that long ago but it was November! I just had a quick read myself and I'm amazed at how much she has come on in the last couple of months. So here we are 9 months down the line, this little poppet has been on the outside as long as she was on the inside, madness!

So what has Elarna been up to in the last couple of months (apart from annoying her brother)? I mentioned in her last update that we had one tooth and another starting to appear, well I can confirm that they are well and truly out now and we are awaiting the appearance of the top 2. These top 2 have been quite the pesky pair and have been causing some upset, little sods. Although she hasn't been overly dribbly she pretty much rams anything and everything in her mouth to have a good chew, she's a grump pants, been quite poorly with them and sleeping has been a tad erratic (marvellous). In fact she's been poorly a handful of times over the last few weeks and I'm putting it all down to these teeth that we are still waiting to show! Her gums are so awfully sore and swollen at times it's difficult to know how to relieve them other than the usual remedies. We plod on though and take it a day at a time.

One of my absolute favourite pictures to date.

What a face, haha!

We are well into weaning now and she's starting to get a taste for certain things and is becoming much better at the baby led weaning but is still not sure about lumpy textures which I find weird if I'm honest, I thought she would be a bit better with lumps but not so much. She seems to gag quite a bit on things that are lumpy but isn't too bad with actual food. I don't know why I've developed this odd thing about baby led weaning, it must stem from Alfie choking when he was younger and although his gag reflex kicked in it's clearly traumatised me as I worry when I see Elarna with chunks of food. That being said she really enjoys being able to pick the food up and feed herself and he hand/eye coordination is brilliant. Perhaps I need to relax a little. Having just started at nursery they have informed me that she's eating well with them and experimenting with flavours so I'm pleased with that.

As well as continuing to be an actual speed demon when crawling, Elarna is now pulling herself up at every opportunity and is cruising around the furniture. She has stood unaided for a few seconds recently too and it's clear to see her confidence is increasing each day. She gets into every nook and cranny and I really have to be careful about what she seems to find as it then goes straight in her mouth (cue scary moment and over protective mummy alert!).

Trying to get pictures of her sitting still are almost impossible these days and require some determination from me to get her to pose.......mainly silly faces and crazy noises to get her attention! She's then off again and ready to bug her brother while he plays. One thing that has been difficult is as she is now so mobile and into everything Alfie gets quite stressed as she obviously has no concept at the moment that he doesn't want her playing with his toys or destroying his train track. I decided the best bet was to purchase a play pen, the great thing about this particular play pen is that it can be turned into an extendable room divider, meaning that when she's a bit older and I need to separate her from Alfie to give him peace I can! Fingers crossed my theory works.

Elarna has also very much found her voice this month, my god this child can shriek, wail and whinge for England!!! Noisy little monkey that she is. I definitely don't remember Alfie being quite so high pitched, I'm sure he was at times but Elarna could wake the dead with her shrieking I'm sure.

Alfie is definitely settling into his role as big brother, there is much less of the pushing, biting and shoving now (thank god) and more tender and caring moments, when she does start to annoy him he now finds her one of her own toys to play with and the crisis is mainly averted! It's a beautiful thing to watch them develop as siblings.

That is pretty much it for this update, I am so annoyed that I forgot to write her 8 month update, I must be organised next time. Till the next update :)
