Here comes the Sun - A family day out
by EEPaul
With summer just
around the corner, it is time to start thinking of ways to make the
most of it. Because let’s face it, you can never be sure how long
the good weather will last in England. So lock
up those iPads and games consoles and shake some
life into your kids. Children these days just don’t appreciate the
joys that the great outdoors have to offer. As a parent, it is your
job to educate them. Here are a few ideas for days out that the whole
family will enjoy. It definitely beats being cooped up indoors.
Picnics
by langalex
One of the
simplest but most pleasurable things a family can do is go
for a picnic. All you need is a blanket, a basket
full of food, some OK weather and a nearby field. Why not spice
things up even more by bringing a disposable barbecue along and
having some cooked meat? While the kids enjoy their cans of pop, mum
and dad could treat themselves to a refreshing drop of rose wine.
Just bring a few plastic wine glasses and paper plates and you are
set for a great summer afternoon.
Crazy
Golf
The dads out
there will probably be getting excited about all the golf events that
are coming up over the summer months. There’s plenty of action on
TV, with Rory McIlroy (4/1
with betfair at the time of writing) among the
contender to pick up another win at the Open Championship. And
there may be golf outings with friends from work. But how do you get
the whole family involved in this great summer sport? Why, crazy golf
of course! This is a great way to get the kids interested in golf
from a young age.
It’s easy to play and seriously fun for the whole
family and if you don't fancy heading outside what about an indoor golf simulator, what a unique idea to head home to and go here for some indoor fun.
National
Parks
by Fæ
Britain is home
to some fantastic countryside that just cannot be matched. There is
nothing better than getting the whole family out on a nice summer’s
day for a long walk. There are plenty of national parks that you can
visit, no matter where you live. If you’re feeling ambitious,
then climbing Helvellyn
in the Lake District is a great achievement and
not too tough a challenge. It’s one of the biggest peaks in England
and the views are incredible.
The
Seaside
by David Jones
What ever
happened to the good old-fashioned trip to the seaside? Remember the
excitement you used to feel as a child when you set off for a seaside
trip with the family? These days, package holidays abroad are so
cheap that the seaside
holidays seem to be dying out. The people of
Britain don’t realise how lucky they are to have such a beautiful
coastline. It’s never too far to drive either no matter where you
are and ideal for a day trip. England has some of the most
spectacular beaches in the world, like Robin Hood’s Bay in
Yorkshire. So try and get the family out for a seaside holiday this
summer, or even just a day. Let your children enjoy the things you
used to love as a child, like sticks of rock, fairground rides and
donkey walks on the beach.
This article has
barely scratched the surface of the
plethora of things that families can do in the great outdoors on
a nice summer’s day. What about taking a boat ride on a lake? Or
swimming in a river? Get your children interested in more sports by
playing tennis or badminton, or going on an adventure course.
Whatever you do, make the most of what summer there is with the whole
family, and don’t even think about staying inside!
