Nesting has Hit.

My word of the week is nesting.

I love this part of pregnancy, I really do. I remember when pregnant with Alfie I became quite the cleaning machine and everything had to be sorted, cleaned, dusted and rearranged and it's quite similar this time around but perhaps not as extreme due to looking after a mad toddler.

I would say that my nesting urges started a couple of weeks ago, I had a sudden burst of energy and felt compelled to clean the fridge, everything came out, shelves were removed and the fridge had somewhat of a deep clean, not only that I then decided that the way everything was arranged was wrong and I needed to arrange it differently, it's now much more logical! I then moved on to our cupboard under the stairs which is my 'Monica' cupboard, for those who ever watched Friends will know exactly what I mean by this. This is my cupboard that no one but me should ever see inside as it is piled high with everything and anything. So on this cleaning day everything came out and the whole cupboard was emptied, things thrown out and everything put back in again and rearranged, don't get me wrong it's still full to the brim but it's tidier! Later that week I also had everything out of the food cupboards, scrubbed inside them and then replaced everything again, that was fun!

This week my energy levels have been a bit meh but I have dusted everywhere, cleaned all the bathrooms, sorted out some of my old make up and thrown a few bits away, cleaned doors and windows and hoovered from top to bottom (we have a 3 storey house, no mean feat at 38 weeks pregnant), I've also washed the curtains in the living room and have steamed downstairs several times!

I've still got a few things on my 'to do' list such as washing to put out, the fish tank to clean and the extractor hood above the oven to have a good scrub and I'm sure next week I'll be hoovering and steaming again several times!!

If I had my way I would probably be painting the downstairs and touching up the paint throughout the house but my husband has sadly drawn the line there at the moment claiming it's too big a job and to be fair I think he has a point!

It is strange how the nesting instinct suddenly kicks in, as mentioned above it's not as bad as it was previously, I remember when I was pregnant with Alfie I had everything out of the wardrobes, I then colour coded everything and hung it all back in this order! Quite OCD, it didn't last long though sadly, my husband couldn't quite get his head around putting things back in colour order, grrr, men.

They say that nesting can be a sign of baby arriving soon but I think I'm going to be here for the long haul to be honest so will plan what else I need to do before she arrives, there is still plenty to be cleaned and organised, there is always something that I find to do.

Did you have the nesting instinct when pregnant? Did you manically clean everything within an inch of its life?

  1. Oh yes, I certainly had the nesting thing. On my hands and knees cleaning the fireplace hearth, 32 weeks or so pregrant and with a massive big bump in front of me. Such a sight! Good luck with the birth and everything. Soooo exciting :) Tx

    1. It's bizarre isn't it! I will probably be scrubbing our tiles at some point, usually I steam but might have to get on all fours to encourage baby out! Thanks for the comment :-) x

  2. Haha, well if nesting is a sign of pregnancy then i must be pregnant! :P I am meant to be moving to another country in a few weeks, so I'm in a big "clean out" mode, everything needs to be sorted. I bet it's very exciting cleaning everything out and getting ready for the arrival of your baby!
