Pregnancy Update - 38 - 39 Weeks

Baby is the size of a Watermelon (at 39 weeks)!

Maternity Style: Top from Mothercare (RRP £25.00), I didn't get this that long ago but they don't seem to have them online anymore unfortunately as it's a really nice maternity top. Over the bump leggings from Next (RRP £12.00).

Apologies for the terrible pictures, I feel like a whale right now and I've reached that stage where I'm glad I'm in the last stages of pregnancy as it's hard work, I'm knackered! I'm fed up of not being able to wear my normal clothes, I'm really spotty (ergh), uncomfortable and emotional/hormonal.

I am now 39 weeks and 1 day, 6 days to go till my due date, eek. I'm excited while at the same time apprehensive, my anxiety levels vary day to day but at the moment I'm just really looking forward to meeting out little girl, I think as long as I focus on the outcome I definitely feel more positive about labour. Baby continues to be in a good position for birth and is continuing to engage, I thought my bump had dropped somewhat but looking at this picture above it still seems quite high! I have been having quite alot of crampy type pains and intense braxton hicks so I'd say from my experience that my body is still starting to prep to go into labour, the question is when will it happen?! The only thing that has come back with a vengeance is my acid indigestion, it has really ramped up again in the last week and during the night it's at its worst annoyingly. I should take out shares antacids!!

In the run up to the birth I've been keeping busy nesting (you can read all about that here), I've been very occupied over the last few days tidying, cleaning and sorting out bits and pieces trying to get prepared and organised, I still have lots to do to keep me occupied in the next few days too. This weekend has been lovely and packed, I saw some of my close friends and had a lovely baby shower arranged by my bestest, we went out for a very relaxed afternoon tea full of chatter and giggles which was fab. Baby G was completely spoilt and I've no idea where to put all of the lovely gifts, I swear this baby girl is going to have a better wardrobe than me! We went to The Angel, Bury St Edmunds and it was delicious, it really was a great afternoon.

I just had to share this photo of Alfie getting involved with the big, pink balloon! He's now claimed it as his and if it helps him with understanding what's going on I'm happy for him to play with it. I'm really trying to keep him involved with everything and talking to him about what's going to be happening in the near future, I'm not sure how much he is taking in but I think he realises that something is going to happen.

Baby is now weighing roughly 7lbs (ish)  and about 51cm in length, a layer of fat continues to develop to help protect the baby when born and the outer layers of the baby's skin is shedding as new skin forms beneath. Baby this week is around the size of a small watermelon, what a comparison!!

My next midwife appointment will be at 40+2 if I haven't popped by then, this will be a home visit where I can have a membrane sweep should I wish to have one, I had two with Alfie and the second contributed to my labour starting but they're not the most pleasant thing to have done so I'm kind of hoping to avoid being overdue but it's just a waiting game now.

Today we have spent the day taking Alfie to the zoo and out for dinner, I was determined that we would spend a family day together before the new baby arrives, I've been quite emotional over the last couple of days and I've been worrying about how Alfie will take to a little baby and us adjusting to being a family of 4. I'm so glad that we had today with him, he had an absolute whale of a time and it has been a truly lovely day.

So I will leave this post as it is for today and all that remains to be said is for everyone to send me some good labour vibes! Who knows if I'll be writing a 40 week update, let's see what happens! Eek.

Thanks as always for reading!!

  7. You look lovely! And you'vejust reminded me of how i felt when I was carrying my little girl (now 7 months) I too go very emotional about our family of 3 becoming a 4 and how my little boy was going to take to the new addition, It all fell into place and having another a sibling for my little boy is the best thing I've ever done he adores her and it's amazing to see them playing together. Good luck with the labour hope everything goes smoothly for you xx
