Poolside Perfection - My top 5 essentials

All this gorgeous sunny weather we've been having recently has been getting me in the mood for a holiday. Usually we would be heading to the South of France for a 2 week break full of sun, fine food, wine and chocolate but as we are planning on a break to New York later in the year for my 30th birthday we have decided to head to Northern France instead. It might not be as hot as the South but there is no reason for me not to be prepared for sitting by the pool (or sea)......weather permitting!

Anyway, I digress.......it got me thinking about my top 5 essentials for being poolside or at the beach.

Number 1. For me, it has to be sunglasses. I can't be without a pair on a sunny day, I can't bear having to squint and not being able to see, so I generally do always have a pair handy. I'm quite a fan of big sunglasses as you can see in the picture below. This pair is by French Connection, I love them and I'll be devastated when they break!

Alfie decided eyes shut was the best option for this picture!

If budget was no issue I would totally be choosing these beauties by Ralph Lauren which you can pick up from Sunglasses Hut for £116.00. There are loads of designs to choose from you'll be spoilt for choice.

Number 2. My next essential would definitely have to be a decent beach bag. Personally  I like big bags, especially when it needs to fit sun lotion, towel, books, sunglasses  baby stuff and other random stuff I like to shove in it etc etc. I'm notorious for over packing not only my luggage but my bag too.

How gorgeous is this nautical themed bag from one of my favourite shops Accessorize. It was £29.99 but now on sale for £20.00 (I'm very tempted to actually purchase this asap!).

Number 3. Third on my list has to be my Kindle. I love, love, love my Kindle (s), I don't go anywhere without them these days. I have an original Kindle as well as the Kindle Fire. I find that when I'm reading a book it's better on the original kindle due to the e-ink used and you still get the glare on the Kindle Fire, but I love them both. I used to take about 10 books away with me on a holiday so this has saved me luggage space.......more shoes can now fit!

You can purchase the Kindle Fire for £139.00 at the moment (normally £159.00) or the Kindle Paperwhite for £109.00 both can be purchased from Amazon. I just think they are fantastic!

Number 4. Oh how I love a kaftan, especially since having Alfie. I always did prior to being pregnant favour a cover up but even more so these days, especially baring all by the pool! Kaftan's are also very versatile as not only can you throw them over a bikini or a swimming costume but they can also double up to wear on evening if you so wish!

I think this one from Next is gorgeous, it costs £25.00 so not cheap but they really are essential poolside glamour, plus they hardly take up any room in your luggage or beach bag which is another bonus!

Number 5. Lastly on my poolside essential list has got to be flip flops or something similar. I don't think my poolside perfection would be complete without a nice pair of sparkly flip flops.

I love this gorgeous  pair which are also from Next for £35.00. Perfect for glamming up your daytime or evening outfit. If this sort of thing isn't your style you could opt for a trainer type shoe, I love these cute pink ones available from Hi Tec for £34.99.

So there you have it, my 5 summer pool or beach side essentials.

Do you have any other essentials that you would recommend that are different?
