10 Reasons Why I Suck at Parenting.......

OK, so I don't think I actually suck at parenting but I there a few things I could maybe improve on..........

1. I drop the f-bomb (and sometimes the s-bomb and b-bomb) at least twice on a daily basis, mostly quietly and under my breath but sometimes little ears do hear, eek! My language has always been choice to say the least and I do try and curb the profanities but sometimes the odd f-bomb does slip out.

2. I sometimes let the kids watch TV and watch YouTube on the tablet for longer than they should...... *gasp* you know sometimes I just need to be able to do the housework or sit down with a hot drink! Elarna isn't much interested in the TV really but Alfie is quite happy to sit and browse YouTube or watch a film and do you know what I'm ok with that.

3. Alfie gets sweets and ice lollies. Not all the time I hasten to add but he does get given the odd treat here and there, in moderation I don't see the issue.

4. Sometimes the only food I can bare to cook is wrapped in cellophane and out of the freezer *bad mum*. They always get a huge amount of fresh fruit, salad and veg throughout the day so if a freezer meal saves the day and bellies are full who cares. I'm no cook, that is hubby's domain, I'll give him the honour of making the really yummy stuff.

5. I bribe. Yes you read that right, I bribe my 4 year old child. If I want the chance of popping out with a relatively well behaved child I will give him the promise of a magazine, most of the time it works. If I want a nice photo the promise of a sweet sometimes helps, oh the shame!

6. I do sometimes have a cull of toys. Bye bye annoying musical toy that I have despised since you were a small child. I also have been known not to replace batteries in toys that have run out. This may come back to bite me on the bum......

7. I use Daddy when behaviour is not good. 'Daddy won't be happy if I tell him you've been naughty, do you want Daddy to be cross?' - Daddy is much more authoritative than me at times and with the mention that Daddy won't be happy behaviour often changes!

8. I'm not a crafty mama, I've mentioned this before but the thought of painting, chalk or anything like this brings me out in a cold sweat. The picture below is proof to why I feel like this, things just end up where they shouldn't, i.e on his head.......and I'm still finding glitter particles a week later everywhere.

9. I don't take the kids out for a walk on every one of my days off. I know I should and I always have the best intentions but honestly trying to walk with a pushchair and keep control of a speedy 4 year old who always insists in going on his motorbike is hard bloody work! Sometimes we just stay in the house and play in the garden, they're still getting fresh air and exploring so I don't feel too bad.

10. I have no decent pictures of Elarna up in the house. I have a ton of canvases of Alfie but none of Elarna, I keep meaning to I just keep forgetting and I feel awful about it. I need to remedy this asap I know I do otherwise she's going to think we don't want to see her face on the walls.

So there you have it, 10 reasons why I am a bit sucky as a Mum. Tongue in cheek of course, I don't actually think I'm a crap parent lets face none of us are perfect at the end of the day!!

So come on,tell me why you might suck at parenting......

  1. I do everything you have said! It really made me smile :). I've been known to give the kids their kindles at the weekend to keep them in their rooms for a little while longer so we can have a lie in!! #MarvMondays

  2. Hehe, I think you're just like the rest of us! I love cooking but my toddler's favourite meal is still fish fingers 😐 Also I stick 'Frozen' ok regularly so I can wash-up, drink tea or just rest my weary brain. I blame the media for making all the things you've listed seem 'bad' 😆

  3. Ok truthfully I suck at all of those and many more this would be almost identical to what I would write love this post totally brilliant Helen X

  4. My goodness I'm a bit of a curser too! I got away with it because my son has speech delay. That is until the other day when he piped up with 'piss!' #MarvMondays

  5. I am also fond of a swear word or two, and constantly drop the f-bomb! Which is fine while the baby doesn't talk, but one of his first words WILL be duck! I feel like a sucky parent because I don't have a proper bedtime routine that we stick to every night - Alfie just doesn't respond to it, he likes to do his own thing so I let him for an easy(ish) life! #marvmondays

  12. Haha if doing any of those things is going to make me a sucky parent then I'm screwed ;) I'm not a crafty person either - isn't that why nursery etc exists? So they can paint and so on and it's someone elses problem? I'm proud to say Piglet and I go out for a walk twice a day....... not so much for his benefit but because we have a dog! #bestandworst

  13. I swear to much, I snap at the big girl, I let her watch TV when I want some quiet! We can't always be the perfect parent #bestandworst

  14. Yep. I officially suck too! On all ten counts haha. Apparently bribery is actually fine and encouraged on parenting courses. As long as the sweet is given after the photo (and not in advance of it) it is considered a reward not a bribe. Rewards are encouraged as angelic parental behaviour so you can scratch that one off your list. We now both only suck at the other 9 now haha xx #bestandworst

  15. I totally suck too! Little man is picking up everything right now, so I really need to stop my swearing. I am more guilty of the TV time too though! #bestandworst

  17. Love it! I suck too, and I've got older children. My two, at 12 and 7, call me out on it when I'm being too rubbish! I do bribe though, it just works wonders and when you really need them to behave it's the best way. ;)

  18. Hmmm I must be a pretty sucky mum too as I am guilty of at least 80% of your list and blimey there must be much more, um I eeeked out naptimes for as long as possible, and boy do I miss them now they are gone, I take the pushchair out with me sometimes although he would prefer to walk but occasionally I need to get to places a little bit quicker, and the big one; I pretend to listen to my gorgeously funny chatty little man, but actually I am looking at instagram on my phone. I hang my head in shame. #bestandworst

  20. I'd be surprised if any other parents can say that they havent done a few things on this list themselves. The iPad definitely comes out once in a while and why is it that the threat of daddy makes like ones suddenly behave?! Lol. Emily #bestandworst

  21. hehehe, I don't think you're the only one with these! Daddy is a good threat, at least I try it, but I'm not sure H is old enough yet lol

I've just started making ice lollies, and just make them using water... H has no idea, and asks for one on a daily basis :-D #bestandworst

  22. I was guilty of most of these when my boys were kids. I think its the reality of being a parent and nothing to worry about. #bestandworst

  23. I can definately relate to a few of these espically when Logan has had a bad night sleep and I'm feeling like I'm a pregnant Zombie. #bestandworst

  24. I think I pretty much do everything on this list!!! Especially the bribery and threatening with big scary daddy hehe! xx #bestandworst

  25. We're all just making it up as we go along really aren't we? I guess my thing is that I don't really limit screen time - but then my child has just got loads of As at GCSEs so I don't think it's done her too much harm in the long run.

  31. I'm guilty of all of these, except number 3, and that's only because my son doesn't like sweets. Otherwise it would be a full house! I think the iPad just about saves my sanity! xx #MarvMondays
