Our Week!

You know this week has just been a bit pants. Just one of those weeks that you are glad to see the back of! Nothing horrific has happened, nothing awful, it's just been a miserable old week.

I was back at work last Friday after a lovely few days off over Easter. It was actually a good day, dragged a little but then the first day back at work after a break does. However I felt a little off, couldn't really put my finger on it but I was feeling not quite right. I brushed it off thinking I was perhaps just a bit tired. Over the weekend I continued to feel a bit lethargic and rubbishy, I met my best friend for coffee, cake and a catch up on Saturday and had a headache that I couldn't shift. I plodded on and had a lovely morning with her, always nice to catch up and of course a little shop!

I then went and purchased my fitbit flex which I've been after for a while, this was a mission in itself as I firstly when to Argos online it told me they had then in stock but on arrival I then found they would arrive in on Wednesday. This was slightly annoying as I'd driven across town from where I originally was, grrrrr. Fortunately there was a Curry's just over the road and they had then in stock so I nipped over there and purchased one. Saturday evening we had the in-laws over for dinner which was nice but again I had this niggling headache that was bugging me. Sunday was much the same, still feeling a bit meh but now a sore throat had developed. Once again I plodded on and went to a Crew clothing sale just over the road from us, it was quite good but still pretty expensive considering it was supposed to be a sale. I then met my Mum and we had a little shop and wander around town which was nice.

Sunday night was pretty poor, by 9pm I could barely swallow and was feeling pretty sorry for myself. I had a bit of a rubbish sleep (according to my fitbit I'm a very restless sleeper......but the I kind of knew that anyway!). Monday morning came round and I made the decision not to go into work, I felt pretty poor, I had a feeling that it was tonsillitis which is something I used to suffer with regularly but not something that I've had recently. I decided to ring the dr's, I have been poorly more or less on and off since December and it's been starting to get me down somewhat. Not only feeling poorly but a constant lack of energy and tiredness has had me thinking that I've got thyroid issues.

I talked about my visit to the dr's with Alfie a while back when we were both suffering with a nasty cough and had antibiotics, at this appointment I also asked for a blood test to get my FBC (full blood count) and TSH (thyroid levels) checked. I had rang and asked about these results a while back and was informed they were 'satisfactory', why I didn't think to query this more I don't know as when I spoke to the dr earlier this week we had a discussion about them as my monocytes (white blood cells) were slightly raised which can be an indicator of glandular fever.......which would explain why I've been so tired lately and catching everything and anything going! So I've had another blood test and I'm awaiting the results on that to confirm. Not that anything can be done if it is glandular fever, however I was prescribed a 10 day course of antibiotics to try and help the tonsillitis. Towards the back end of this week Elarna started to run a high temp on and off and have copious amounts of snot (lovely), thankfully she's not been too bad in herself so with a bit of calpol she's been fine.

So I have been off work for the week trying to rest and recuperate, kind of hard when you've got 2 demanding young children to look after! However we are lucky to have very helpful grandparents and they have stepped in to help me for a couple of hours here and there.

It hasn't been all doom and gloom this week though, we had 2 very positive parents evenings. Alfie got a fantastic report from nursery, he's doing brilliantly and well on the way to be starting school which is reassuring to hear and Elarna is making brilliant progress and hitting all her milestones and generally just enjoying her time in nursery. We also decided to take the plunge and take Alfie's pull up's off at night, they were never overly wet in the morning and so far he's been dry every morning other than 1, bless him!

With the weather being hit and miss this week and me not been 100% it's been a week of indoor activities, we painted a big family mural to stick up on the wall.......it's no Monet but I love it, it's captured alot of love and family fun in it and it will brighten up an otherwise plain wall. We've read books (as much as I can!), played with lots of toys, done yet more drawing, bounced on the trampoline and baked cakes. All in all I've tried to keep positive for the kiddies and keep a smile on my face when I've been feeling pretty poo, one thing I know is with my cheeky pair of monkeys they do help keep my spirits up.

Sorry for the less than positive post this week, hopefully a cheerier week to follow! This is what I've been up to, what about you?

  1. Oh no, sorry to hear you've been unwell and have had a bad week. It's hard when you've the kids to look after, too, though it sounds like you're getting by. I hope you're on the up soon x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

  4. Hi Helen, feeling under the weather is bad enough without having to look after two little ones, especially when one is under the weather herself.

Brilliant news though that the children are doing well at school and nursery.

    xx

  8. So sorry to hear that you've been poorly, its so tough looking after others, especially kiddies when you feel rough. Hope it clears up soon. I can sympathise if its a thyroid thing adding to it as mine appeared out of nowhere after having my two boys. Hope it gets sorted:)

  10. I've had a week just like that! Archie's been poorly and now I'm ill though I've had to return to work as it's lasting forever. Really hoping we all feel healthier soon. 🙈 #bestworst

  11. Oh hun. Feeling poorly with two tiny tots to look after is tough isn't it. Sounds like you've done an amazing job though - baking and painting? Hats off to you for even getting off the sofa. Hope you feel better soon xx

  12. Sorry to hear you're not feeling so great! Hoping you're feeling better soon. Being off work with kids is a pain though isn't it as you can't rest as much as you need/feel like. It's great you've got a little help though! All of my daughters grandparents either live too far away or work full time. Luckily I work at home (well, sort of lucky) so if I'm feeling ill then I have those blissful few hours when my daughter is at school to rest/bathe/sleep. Sometimes the boyfriend will even walk her to school in the mornings! #bestandworst

  13. Sorry to hear you've been unwell lately. It seems that everyone I've spoken to has been ill at least more than twice this year!!! I had Glandular Fever a few years ago - horrible. Utterly horrible. I didn't get out of bed for over 3 weeks (this was B.C - before child!). I really hope you get better soon and here's hoping the next week will be decidedly more positive for you. #bestandworst

  20. I too have thought that I might have problems with my thyroid. My nurse friend told me sometimes it won't show up in regular testing...that there's a different kind of test that needs to be done. She had hers removed and has felt great ever since. Hope you find the problem. Thanks again for hostessing #bestandworst!
