Autumn Awaits

As much as I like Summer there is nothing better than the transition into Autumn. I'm always a little sad to say goodbye to slightly warmer temperatures (pah, who am I kidding this is the UK after all!) but the smell of Autumn, the colour of the trees changing, walks through crunchy leaves and cosy, dark evenings with a cup of hot chocolate (or a glass of wine!) in hand, wrapped up in a snuggly jumper are just perfect to me.

There are so many things to like about the changing seasons, I particularly like to get out all of my warmer clothes, it means officially the onesie (yes I do love a onesie!) can be worn, my ear muffs come out, my boots are dug out and I can wear my plethora of scarves which is one my favourite autumn/winter accessories to wear!

Bonfire night a couple of years ago
This time of year is kind of tinged with a little sadness. Once we start entering October this really is the countdown to my maternity leave ending. The last few months have gone by so quickly, almost like a whirlwind, so once we are in October I am firstly on countdown to Christmas then I shall be returning to work ........ far too soon in 2016! I'm not going to dwell on this fact and get all depressed about it as what's the point, all good things must come to an end and what will be will be. I do actually love my job so have no huge issues returning but it is rather nice spending time with my littlies and not having to worry about getting up for work!

There is a nice autumnal smell in the air at the moment, it's kind of a mixture of colder air and trees gently losing their leaves with the mixture of rain mixed in........good old British weather! I actually don't mind the nights drawing in either, yes it makes me feel a bit more tired but I love snuggling up on the sofa, watching and film and generally just being a bit lazy.

I also love bonfire night. We haven't taken Alfie to any proper displays (other than when he was really little in the picture above), the last couple of years the weather has been a bit rubbish and he's always been very tired in the evenings so we've never made it to a firework display, I'm really hoping to take him to a big display for him to watch, I think he'd love it.......and so would I!

Autumn also makes me feel really homely and want to bake lots of scrummy things that are bad for you and cook hearty and warming dishes, I say this but then I don't actually do much cooking other than sweet things, good job I have a husband who does!

I'm thinking that I would also like to do some autumn crafts with Alfie, similar to what I used to do when I was younger...........namely collecting leaves and sticking them on paper to make a tree, I think glitter would definitely have to be included too! I'd also like to collect some autumnal items and create a little sensory box for both Alfie and Elarna, that should be fun! Hopefully in the next few weeks we can start doing a few things and then we can prepare for Halloween, We generally carve a pumpkin, or at least my husband does and pop a few decorations in the window. Each year the carvings get more and more elaborate so who know what he's got up his sleeve this year! We might have moved house by then so I wonder what our new area will be like for trick or treaters as where we live at the moment we get loads!

So other than the rubbish rainy weather I'm quite looking forward to autumn. What are you most looking forward to?
