Gumigem - Review

Teething babies. Wahhh. I dread the teething time, it's so unpredictable and you never know how they are going to cope. When Alfie was teething he was actually very tolerant and didn't kick up much of a fuss at all. We had the odd sleepless night, oodles and oodles of drool, fist sucking and the occasional grumpy day but generally with a bit of calpol and teething gel he was a good boy. I never really ventured into the world of teethers with him as he just didn't seem that interested. Alfie cut his first tooth at 6 months old so I was anticipating that it would be similar with Elarna. Although she hasn't cut any teeth yet I get the distinct impression that she's got some movement in her gums. The signs are there, the drooling, fist sucking and the grouchiness so I decided it was better to be prepared this time around. She has also taken to clinging onto my necklace's too so an alternative needed to be found!

I had heard about Gumigem a few years ago but as I said Alfie never really took much notice  of teething aids so didn't buy many at all. Gumigem was founded back in 2010 by Jenny McGlaughlan while she was on maternity leave. Much like Elarna she found that her second child was a big teether and liked to grab at necklace's. She came up with the idea to combine the two and Gumigem was born. Over the years the brand has evolved and cemented its place in the 'teething products' market with a huge variety of teething jewellery available to satisfy the grumpiest, teething baby ever. The range of jewellery is immense, there is literally something for everyone. There is beaded necklace's, teething toys, tags for Dad, bangles and lots more. I was amazed by the selection of items available.

I was kindly sent a couple of items to review from Gumigem, I chose the cat pendant mew-chew (RRP £12.95) and the bubba bangle pixie (RRP £8.95), both in pink, of course! To be honest it was a tough choice with what to choose so I based my decisions on 1. I love cats and 2. I love the colour pink! I also wanted something that I could wear that wasn't too over the top as I as worried that Alfie would get a little over excited and he'd want to wear them!

The jewellery itself is made from silicone (the same as a babies dummy). They are BPA, PVC, lead, latex and phthalate free. They can withstand high temperature's so it's fine for them to be washed in hot water or even in the dishwasher (result, less work for moi!). The pendant is on a long cord with breakaway clasp for safety and can be adjusted in length if required. The bangle itself can be worn by me and then given to Elarna as a teething aid or a toy.

She has shown great interest in both, she loves pulling at the pendant when I'm wearing it and although she is yet to start gumming them I don't think it'll be too long before she realises that they are soft and comfortable to put in her mouth. By far the bangle is her favourite, she has started to grip things recently and she just loves to feel things between her fingers. I took the bangle out with me on Saturday and just left it with her on her knees and found her gripping tightly onto it a few minutes later! It's the perfect size for little baby fingers to grasp onto.

To sum it up I am loving the Gumigem items, I think they are fantastic. Not only do they look great but the selection of items that are available are excellent. They are functional and do what they say that they do, what more can you want. I can't say I'm looking forward to the full on teething but I'm pleased that I'm pre-empting it and I've got the teething supplies ready for action!

So if you've got a baby that's teething or about to, definitely check out the website, I'm sure that there will be something that appeals.

Did you baby suffer during teething? What did you use to ease the sore gums?

Family Fever

* As mentioned above I was kindly sent the items free of charge in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions are that of my own and I genuinely love the items, if I didn't trust me I would say!
